Genio Sdn Bhd is an event management and production company based in Kuala Lumpur. We started in 2004 and have run more than 2,500 events since then, most of them for Malaysian corporates and for multinationals with operations here.
One thing separates us from most agencies in the Klang Valley. We own the equipment and we employ the crew. When you hire Genio, you are not hiring a coordinator who then hires a sound company, a lighting company, a staging contractor and a talent agency on your behalf.

Genio Sdn Bhd is a full-service event management and production company in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, founded in 2004 by Kennie Chong. The company has delivered more than 2,500 corporate events, product launches, gala dinners and concerts for clients that include Maybank, Petronas, Toyota, Maxis and Celcom. Genio serves Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor Bahru.

Why we keep everything in house
Most event companies in Kuala Lumpur work as coordinators. They take your brief, then subcontract the sound, the lighting, the staging, the LED and the performers to other companies. There is nothing wrong with that model, but it has a specific failure point, and you usually find it at 4pm on show day when something needs changing and the person who can change it works for a different company.
Genio works the other way.
We own our production inventory. It comes out of our own store and is operated by our own technicians. If a client walks in during rehearsal and asks to move the stage two metres left, we move it.
Every event gets one named lead from our team who runs the show and stays reachable through the build, the rehearsal and the live event. You call one person, not a switchboard.
We also handle the paperwork. Large events in Malaysia need approvals, and which approvals depend on where you are and what you are doing. Pyrotechnics, CO2 jets and haze need sign off on fire safety grounds from Bomba. Outdoor events in the city usually need DBKL involvement. Venues have their own rules on rigging loads and power draw. We file these as part of the production schedule.
Our talent roster is booked directly too. Emcees, live bands, dancers and specialty acts are people we have worked with repeatedly and can vouch for, not names pulled from an agency list.

Kennie Chong
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Kennie Chong started Genio in 2004 and still runs it. Over twenty years he has led the company through more than 2,500 corporate events, product launches, gala dinners and concerts across Malaysia.
In 2022/23 he was named Innovative Leader of the Year at the Leadership Excellence Awards. In 2017 he was listed among Malaysia’s 100 Most Influential Young Entrepreneurs, and he has been profiled by Top 10 of Malaysia, which featured Genio in its list of the country’s most sought after event planners.

Where we work
Genio is headquartered on Jalan Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur. Our office and our production store are both here, which is why we can move equipment to a venue on short notice anywhere in the Klang Valley.
Penang and Johor Bahru are active service areas rather than separate offices. When you book an event in either city, our own crew and our own equipment travel to it. We do not hand the job to a local subcontractor and step back.
